My personal cause
I am the product of good luck, hard work, and a determination to do better.
I was born into a broken family who didn’t want, nor need another kid. Growing up with a single parent, I watched my mother work in low-wage, service industry type employment for most of my young life. I knew it was important work, but I quickly realized it doesn’t provide the basics for a family. As a teenager, circumstances moved me to live with my father. Suddenly I was living a life that had less struggle. After a while, I realized the difference I had experienced was my father’s job. He had a union. He earned a decent wage. This environment provided me the opportunity to finish an education in a healthier environment and see that there was more possibilities for my life than a dead end job that didn’t provide for me. That change or sudden realization in my perspective placed me in a unique position to understand the importance of education, hard work, and perseverance. Because of my fathers job, and the union for which he was a member, for the first time in my life I was able to go to the doctor, the dentist, have new school clothes, go camping, play sports and live in an area that was safer, and provided opportunities for growth. Those things are not what anyone would consider a luxury, but rather a basic need. They are what most people used to consider the “American Dream”.
I have been fortunate enough to find a career that has allowed me to work hard, earn a decent living, and raise my own family. For 25 years now I have been a professional union firefighter serving in my community. It has been an extremely rewarding job despite the physical, mental, and emotional toll it has taken at times. I will be forever grateful to have served others in this unique way. In the last 10 years I have worked to better people, organizations and businesses in their attempts to provide, improve, or better the world through effective strategies in communications, marketing, advertising, digital, public, and commercial media. That’s why I created Labor Media Solutions. I started it as a way to help others in their efforts to do good. I continue to gain experience and education through the work and role I am engaged in with my professional organizations. I owe a lot to people who have believed in me.
I am personally motivated to help make things better for people who just like me, didn’t have all the chances to succeed. Those who work hard, but cant seem to get ahead. I am motivated by my family, and for the betterment of our society. I am motivated to fight for people who deserve a higher quality of life and a worker centered culture that supports each other and its most vulnerable populations. I am motivated to be a part of solutions that provide for a more equitable playing field for the diversity of our world, in order to form and maintain a “more perfect Union”. I know I am a fortunate person. I want to help someone else be fortunate as well.
I hope you will join me in this endeavor.
