Standing up, together.
I didn’t grow up with much. My mom worked hard in low-wage jobs that mattered, but never quite provided what a family needs. As a teenager, I moved in with my dad, and that change showed me something different. He wasn’t wealthy, he drove a forklift, but he was in a Union. That job gave him stability, and for the first time, I experienced what many would call a normal life: access to healthcare, a safer place to live, opportunities to grow. It showed me what was possible.
As I got older, I saw the same choices in front of me, low-wage work with little security, or debt with no guarantees. But I had already seen another path. A path where people come together, work hard, and stand with each other to build something better. A path through labor, through organization, through Unions.
I found that path in the fire service. As a Union firefighter, I’ve been able to build a stable, middle-class life. I’ve been able to support my family, access healthcare, and work in a system that provides fairness and accountability. Those aren’t luxuries, they’re the foundation of what this country has always said it stands for.
That’s what drives me. Not just my own experience, but the belief that others should have that same opportunity. People who work hard should have a real chance at stability, dignity, and a better life. I’ve seen what’s possible when we stand together, and I believe we can keep building that, together.
